MPI Radiocarbon Laboratory
The Radiocarbon Laboratory at the Melnikov Permafrost Institute determines C-14 using the Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC) method.
The analytical system consists of:
1) 1220 QUANTULUS Ultra Low Level Liquid Scintillation Spectrometer (PerkinElmer, USA)
2) Benzene synthesis line (Institute of Environmental Geochemistry, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) with additional modules for different sample preparation procedures, including direct vacuum pyrolysis
3) Set of radiocarbon references in three vial types. Forty sample vials of different sizes. The references have been prepared at the MPI Radiocarbon Laboratory and are routinely updated.
4) Ancillary equipment, including four and two digit balances, refrigerator, cleaning sets, chemical glassware, and vacuum flasks.
1220 Quantulus spectrometer and PC control.
Benzene synthesis line.
Cassette with samples and references to be placed into the spectrometer.
