Conference on Climate Change Effects Held at MPI

On 16 April 2015, the Melnikov Permafrost Institute and the Yakutia Branch of Russian Geographical Society held the Third Regional Conference, Climate Change Effects on Permafrost Geosystems, in memory of two distinguished geocryologists, Prof., Dr. Maria Gavrilova and Prof., Dr. Petr Gavriliev. Two plenary, 10 oral and 5 poster papers were presented on climate change effects in the permafrost region of Yakutia, including CO2 emissions from larch forests, H+ migration in the biosphere, ground thermal regime along railroad corridors, rural communities, Suntar-Khayata glaciers, agricultural lands, urban lake chemistry, and heating season length.
