Fourth Forum for Young Permafrost Scientists Announced

The MPI Young Researchers Council announces that the Fourth Forum for Young Permafrost Scientists will be held from 29 June - 12 July 2015 in Yakutsk, Russia, immediately following the XXI Conference on Groundwater in Siberia and Far East. Young researchers - including undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows - are invited to attend. Previous forums were hosted by MPI in 2013, 2010, and 2008.

The 2015 forum will include a geocryological conference held in Yakutsk from 25-28 June 2015 and a field trip along the Federal Road M-56 Yakutsk to Never from 30 June to 10 July 2015. The conference themes include: Regional and historical geocryology; Permafrost geothermics and thermal physics; Periglacial processes and forms; Landscape dynamics in permafrost regions; Permafrost geochemistry; Permafrost hydrology and hydrogeology; Climate change and permafrost evolution; Greenhouse gases and gas hydrates; Permafrost microbiology; Remote sensing of permafrost; and Stability of engineering structures on permafrost. The field trip will focus specifically on road – permafrost interaction.
